Ok, so how cool is this? The sailing race photographer on Stars and Stripes took my picture as we were coming up behind DC.

Tall Mast

No sailing this weekend, although there is a major Southern California sailing event that a good friend is participating in. The Lipton Cup is this weekend. It is Southern California's America's Cup (but with less lawyers). I'll be chasing in a spectator boat. Good times.

In other news I miss my mother, I can't seem to ever get to sleep before midnight, and my back is in terrible shape. Time for yoga or something. Maybe more sex, yeah, that's the ticket. I'm kind of juggling 3 guys right now. Boys, boys, boys.

Iron Man

Oh hell yeah, great flick. Finally, I'm looking forward to a summer of movies. I can't wait for the new Indiana Jones movie, among others.

N2E Highlights

Some photo highlights of the Newport to Ensenada Regatta

Here we are not far from off the start line. 124 miles to go!

The Jesus-Freak following the boats around. He has a better boat this year.
Whatever.

Me, holding out the boom.

The first night on the boat. Beautiful weather, but the winds died down for the night. The sea was pretty flat.

Tink made us coffee in the morning. She's good crew.

WTF? Flying a "blooper." We passed them like they were standing still so I'm not so sure if it made their boat any faster. Although, it did look cool.

Yeah, we have a pretty good looking crew. From left to right: Brad, my best friend and Zack, the Marine jet fighter pilot.

The wind is starting to slow. Here is the skipper trying to stay awake.

Sunset - night two, only three miles from the finish line. It still took us five hours to cross the line because God decided to turn off the wind. Sheesh. We finished at around 12:30AM.

Here is the entire crew at the results party. We placed 5th. Not bad for our first race. Some of the other teams have done the race every year going back 40 years.

Monday morning 5:45AM. Time to get the boat back to San Diego.

Brad and I doing the delivery home. Another 10 hours.

And finally, my favorite picture of the trip:

Sunset on night two. I cant wait till next year.

The rest of the pictures are posted here.

N 2 E

35 hours and 10 minutes after we started in Newport Beach we crossed the finish line in Ensenada Mexico. It was a hell of a trip. We placed 5th out of 15 boats some of them have been doing the race for over 40 years.

I'm beat and I'm going to bed now
. I hope you all had a good weekend.

Thinking ahead

Eight years ago purchased a $100,000 universal life insurance policy. This past week, because our company has been pushing us to do insurance products, I decided to have my policy reviewed. I figured it was a good way to learn a little more about the whole insurance process (PI). The office insurance guru had me call the insurance company and order an “in-force policy illustration to age 100.”

Sure enough, the policy was set to implode at age 50. Wonderful. Well, at least I’m covered for the race this weekend. Looks like next week is all about underwriting a new policy.

OK, getting back on track…

N2E

Yeah, so I’ve been putting this off for a few days because the new job has been keeping me uber busy, but the time is now upon me.

I have to get everything together for the world’s largest international regatta. Yup, Newport Beach to Ensenada is in two days and I’ve done little to no planning.

God help me.

We are crewed

Crew: So what time do you want us at the boat this weekend, skipper?
Skipper: There’s no race this Saturday.
Crew: Sooo, like around 8ish?
Skipper: No. We don’t have a race this weekend.
Crew: We’ll pick up the champagne.
Skipper: Zero race on Saturday.
Crew: It will be nice to get on the water again. It seems like forever.
Skipper: This weekend we have no race scheduled.
Crew: I thought we could practice some of our backup position in preparation for the Ensenada race.
Skipper: There’s no race.
Crew: But it’s Saturday.
Skipper: Yeah, I know.
Crew: We race on Saturdays. Twas ever thus.
Skipper: You’re not getting it… THERE IS NO RACE THIS SATURDAY.
Crew: Well I’m sure there’s some mistake. We better be on the bay just in case. So… 8AM?
Skipper: I give up.
